The Atkins diet is very popular, but is it right for you? Before you start down the low carb road, you should take some time to decide whether low carb is the right way for you to lose weight. Just because it has been effective for others doesn’t mean it will be right for you. No specific diet works for everyone, and you may even find that a type of low carb diet that works better for you than another. There are many things to consider before you start the Atkins diet.
First, evaluate your past dieting history. If you’ve been trying to lose weight for a long period of time, you’ve no doubt tried a wide variety of diets. Take note of the different diets you’ve tried over the years. Write down the basics of each diet, what worked and what didn’t. Also, write down why you didn’t stay on the particular diet. Evaluate your experience with high carbohydrate diets. These types of diets include most low-fat and calorie controlled diets. How did you feel while on these types of diets? Were you hungry, obsessed with food or experiencing negative reactions? Or did you feel full of energy and generally good?
If you’ve had experience with low carb diets, write that down as well. Past the negative effects of the first week, how did eating low carb make you feel? Why did you stop using the low carb diet?

What Is The Atkins Diet
The answers to these questions will help you decide whether Atkins is right for you or not. If you’ve had good experiences with low-fat diets and bad experiences with other low carb diets, then Atkins is probably not for you. If other low-carb diets have worked but not without difficulty, then you may have been on the wrong type of low-carb diet and Atkins might work better. If you’ve had bad experiences with both types of diets, then you may have better success with a modified Atkins diet.
Your food and eating behaviors can also give you a clue to whether or not Atkins is a good choice for your weight loss efforts. Carb sensitivities are indicated by a certain set of behaviors. You may be carb sensitive if you feel like eating right after you’ve finished a meal. You will also feel strong urges to eat throughout the day. You may feel dizzy, fuzzyheaded and fatigued without getting a boost from sugar or another carbohydrate. Carb sensitivity is also shown when you feel sluggish after eating. This occurs especially after you eat a meal rich in sugars and carbohydrates. If you experience these symptoms frequently, you may have carb sensitivities. Try paying close attention to how carbohydrates affect you and if you continue to experience these symptoms, try doing a low carb diet.
Your success on the Atkins diet can also be determined by your medical and family history. If you have any pre-diabetic symptoms, or diabetes itself, a reduced carb diet like Atkins may be right for you. Significant weight gain can also be helped by the Atkins diet. Normally, the more overweight you are, the more likely you are to have high blood pressure, high triglycerides and high blood glucose.

Atkins Diet Plan
If any member of your family has diabetes or is significantly overweight, this can also put you at risk for these conditions. Your tendency toward these conditions on a genetic level can mark a necessity for a low carbohydrate diet like Atkins. The Atkins plan has been shown to improve weight and control blood sugar issues. If these are problems in your family history, then you may want to consider the Atkins diet.
There are a lot of good reasons to try the Atkins diet. Whether you have responded well to other low carb diets in the past or you have a medical history that warrants a controlled carbohydrate diet, the Atkins Diet can meet your needs.

Eating healthy food choice is something we all would like to do, although it can be hard. In order to eat healthy, you must first make the right food choices.
Eating healthy is all about what you eat, which makes the choices very crucial to your results.

Be Healthy
You should consume 6 ounces of grains per day.
To do this, you can eat 3 ounces of whole grain cereals, breads, rice, crackers, or pasta.
You can get an ounce of grains in a single slice of bread, or 1 cut of cereal.
Vegetables

Healthy Food Choice
These should be varied, as you should eat 2 1/2 cups of them each day.
You should start eating more of the dark vegetables, such as broccili and spinach.
Carrots and sweet potatoes are good as well.
You should also eat more dry beans such as peas, pinto beans, and even kidney beans.
Fruits

Fruits are very important. You should try to eat 2 cups of them each day.
Focus on eating a variety, such as fresh, frozen, canned, or even dried fruit.
You can drink fruit juices as well, although you should use moderation when doing so.
Milk

Healthy
Milk is your calcium rich friend. For adults, 3 cups is the ideal goal. For kids 2 – 8, 2 cups is where you want to be.
When choosing milk products or yogurt, you should go for fat-free or low-fat.
Those of you who don’t like milk or can’t have it, should go for lactose free products or other sources of calcium such as fortified foods and beverages.
Meat and beans

Eating 5 ounces a day is the ideal goal, as you should go lean with your protein.
When eating meat, always bake it, grill it, or broil it, as this will prevent grease from
adding to the equation.
You should vary your protein as well, with more fish, beans, peas, and nuts.
When cooking your food, you should also limit solid fats such as butter, margarine, shortening, and lard.
These foods may add flavor to your dishes, although they can also help raise your cholesterol as well.
Therefore, you should try to add these foods and any foods that happen to contain them.
To help keep your saturated fat, trans fat, and sodium low, you can check the nutrition facts label.
This label can be found on the food package and will tell you all the information you need to know about the food item.
By picking your foods wisely and watching what you eat, you’ll help control your lifestyle. Exercise is great as well, as it goes along perfect with a healthy food choice.

Eating Healthy For Students

For students, eating healthy at college is an entire new ball game, with late night pizza delivery and food from buggies. Even though some of these quick and simple options taste great, they are probably not healthy for a student’s body.
The food choices students make can affect whether or not they are able to remain awake during class and whether or not they will come down with mononucleosis when it hits campus.
The problem is not only about eating junk food, it’s more about not getting the proper proteins, carbs, vitamins, and minerals that people need.

Healthy Eating
When it comes to defending against illnesses, vitamins and minerals are very important.
Just because they are important, isn’t a reason for students to run out and stock up on vitamins and supplements. It’s best for students to get their nutrition from food.
You can find vitamin C in citric fruits, Vitamin A in milk and diary products, and vitamin E in nuts, whole wheat products, and even green leafy vegetables.
This is the ideal way to get nutrition, as your body relies on these vitamins for many reasons.
When you eating healthy on campus, skip on the soda’s and go right to the juice machines.
Explore the different entrees available and go to the salad bar where there are fresh vegetables.
You can also try putting some broccoli and cauliflower in the microwave for steamed vegetables.
There are always healthy cereals and plenty of fresh fruit available in dining halls as well.

Eating Habits
Always remember that eating healthy isn’t just about avoiding greasy foods.
Eating healthy involves getting a balanced diet and getting the right nutrients and vitamins to keep your body in peak performance – or at least awake during your classes.

Lose weight before it’s too late! Health issues arising from obesity is already known to vast majority of people. Diabetics Struggling with Obesity

Everyone needs a little help now and then and shouldn’t be afraid to ask for it.
A newly diagnosed diabetic may feel overwhelmed with the restrictions that they are faced with and not knowing how to plan meals.
The support that is needed is from a dietician or nutritionist.
Depending on your goals and weight a dietician can provide you with a meal plan that will meat the criteria of a healthy diabetic diet and help you lose weight.
In the beginning, the concern with a diabetic diet is to make sure you are getting enough food so your blood sugar does not drop too low.
You will also want to monitor your levels to look for any spikes in your readings too. A dietician can work with you on this.
If you are eating the recommended diet plan and it is not working, you are feeling hungry afterwards or your blood sugar is too high – call your dietician.
He or she can work with you over the phone to make immediate changes and schedule an appointment to rework your plan.
Your dietician can also make recommendations on substitutions for your favorite foods that you were afraid you could never eat again.
They will educate you on portion sizes too.
There really isn’t too much that you can’t have as a diabetic as long as you are
planning your meals out, getting exercise and eating in moderation.

Try and follow it and combine foods as you have been taught by your support team. If you are unsure if something is allowable on your diabetic diet, call your

If you would like to try this approach, start with warm washcloths or towels around the neck and armpits.

Those who have the option to do so are encouraged to sleep when they develop a painful headache or migraine. Although sleep may not provide permanent relief, the temporary relief is still preferred by many. Even if sleep is not possible, like if you are a parent who is at home with your child, stay in a dark room. Light can often complicate a headache, especially a migraine. This can make the pain much worse or even unbearable for many. For that reason, those suffering from migraines are encouraged to limit their exposure to household lights, sunlight, television, and computer screens.
Headaches, especially migraines, can be debilitating. Some sufferers are unable to continue on with their daily activities. Losing Weight and Controlling Blood Sugar

If you are a diabetic and are overweight or considered clinically obese, you can improve
your overall health and the management of your diabetes by losing weight.
It may seem
like an overwhelming goal if you have tried in the past to lose weight and have failed.
But there are steps you can take and support you can utilize to help you reach your goals.
The first step to losing weight is to set a short-term goal for yourself.
You can do this on
your own but can also get help from your doctor or a dietician.
A good goal when
starting to lose weight is to take a small percentage of your overall weight and aim to lose
that much in your time frame.
For instance, if you weigh 200 pounds aim to lose weight
5% of your body weight to begin (10 pounds).
When you lose weight as a diabetic you are helping your body by lessening your insulin requirements.
Weight loss will also assist you in keeping your blood sugar levels under control.

Another method to lose weight is physical activity and exercise. Getting your body
moving will increase your metabolism and that act will assist in losing weight too. Not
only will increased metabolism aid in weight loss, it will also help in controlling blood
glucose levels. Your body will be processing food more efficiently.
Diet and exercise go hand-in-hand with weight loss. It also takes patience and time but
as you begin the road to weight loss the benefits you will derive as a diabetic will begin
right away. And as you reach your goal weight you will gain better control of your blood
sugars. If you are having difficulty losing weight on your own, speak to your doctor
about other options that are available to you such as medication or possibly surgery.

Kids Eating Healthy

Fast food is a big part of modern life these days, making it very hard to teach a child how he or she should eat healthy.
The cheapest and easiest foods are those that are normally the least healthy.
If you give your child the choice between healthy food and junk food, you normally won’t like the results.
Even though it isn’t possible to get a child to like all healthy foods, there are some ways to get your child to try and hopefully like at least a few of them.
You can be as creative as you like, as getting kids to eat healthy foods can be a little harder than you may think.
- Sneak the healthy food in.
Even though it would be great if your kid understood the importance of fruits and vegetables, this isn’t always possible.
If you can’t get them to eat good food willingly, there are ways to sneak them in, such as making muffins out of bananas or apples, or pizza with spinach on it.

- Call fruits and vegetables by funny names.
You can refer to broccoli as “trees”, making them more fun to eat.
There are many different names you can call fruits and vegetables, even making up your own if you prefer.
Most kids prefer to eat foods that sound fun.

- Make the foods taste better.
Ranch dressing is great for broccoli, while peanut butter is a great topping for celery.
There are several combinations for vegetables that can make them taste much better.
You can let your child pick a topping for a vegetable, even if it’s something you wouldn’t
normally like yourself.
- Dress the vegetables up.
Just as much as calling them names help kids eat healthy foods, making them look funny also helps.
You can do this by making funny designs on the plate, or setting them up to look like people. Although some parents don’t like their kids playing with their food, sometimes it helps to get them to eat healthier.

There are several ways to make your kids eat healthier, but to make them enjoy it also has to
be fun as well.
This isn’t always an easy task, because kids normally don’t like foods that are good for them. It can however, be done with a bit of creativity. Hopefully, doing this will help your child develop a love of healthy foods for the rest of their lives.

High Blood Pressure in Obese Diabetics

High blood pressure is a concern for anyone but people with diabetics are more likely to
suffer from it than others.
If you are obese and diabetic, a high blood pressure can be
deadly leading to a fatal heart attack.
Like many health risks associated with diabetes,
good control of your blood sugars, a healthy diet and physical activity can help to keep
your blood pressure in check.
If you are suffering from a headache, your vision is blurry and you feel light headed or
dizzy you may have high blood pressure.
These symptoms are not just indicative of high
blood pressure though and you should seek medical attention to determine the cause.
Other times there may be no symptoms at all when you have high blood pressure or it
may be slightly elevated.
It is smart to have your blood pressure routinely checked at
your doctor’s appointments.

When you are obese, the most effective way to reduce your blood pressure is to lose
weight.
Follow a meal plan that works for your diabetes, making sure you are consuming
enough food, and can still allow you to lose weight.
Other changes that you can make
that will improve your blood pressure are:
* An exercise routine that is followed on a regular basis
* Reducing stress in your life – mediation, yoga, letting go of some responsibilities
* Quit smoking
* Lessen the amount of salt you use for cooking or on your food
While you are making lifestyle changes to lower your blood pressure your doctor may
decide to put your on medication.
If you have to take blood pressure medication it does
not have to be forever.
You can look at it as a short-term fix while you make the changes
necessary to lower your blood pressure on your own.
